The razor-sharp ridge leading from Crater Rock to the summit is aptly named the Hogsback. It is framed to the east by the majestic Steel Cliffs. The ridge is broken only by the seasonal opening of the bergschrund crevasse (top of this photo with climbers skirting it to the left). On either side of this ridge are volcanic vents actively releasing sulphur fumes from deep within the mountain.
