Lava Cast Forest
The Lava Cast Forest is about 7,000 years old. Lava from vents on Newberry Volcano flowed through a mature ponderosa pine forest, enveloping the trees, then cooled leaving a mold around the burned pines. A one-mile self-guided interpretive trail winds through the forest, which is being reclaimed by young pines.
