St. Peter's Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica is the Vatican's largest building and one of the largest churches in the world, seating more than 60,000. Today's basilica dates to the Renaissance, when it was built over a ruined basilica and the traditional burial site of St. Peter, the biblical apostle said to be the first Bishop of Rome. The basilica features marble taken from the Colosseum and the artwork of Michelangelo.
